Die Entdeckung des Insulins: Übersetzung aus dem Amerikanischen von Robert Augustin (Original PDF from Publisher)

By Michael Bliss
“The present work is an exciting mandatory reading for diabetologists and all people interested in the history of medicine with and without diabetes. It is thanks to the meticulous work of historian Prof. Michael Bliss that we have been correctly informed of the history of the discovery of insulin. The story shone too beautifully until then that an ingenious young war hero discovered the life-saving insulin in a few months and thus became the first Canadian with a Nobel Prize to become a national hero. The truth was that Banting sacrificed countless dogs in confused documented attempts. This manufacturing method for insulin was far too complicated and unnecessary. Only the biochemist Collip succeeded in obtaining usable insulin directly from the salivary gland in 1921/22. Bliss’ works are profoundly researched and his work now present in a very well successful German translation of Dr. Robert Augustin. The discovery of insulin is an excitingly written, outstanding book of medical history.”
