About JAMA Neurology

Journal Frequency and Access. JAMA Neurology is published online weekly, every Monday, and in 12 print/online issues a year. The journal receives over 2.25 million online visits annually, and more than 3.2 million article views and downloads. Without any author fees, all research articles are made free access online 12 months after publication on the website. All articles are made free access on an html app called JN Reader on the day of publication. In addition, the online version is freely available or nearly so to institutions in developing countries through the World Health Organization’s HINARI program.

Editorial Information. JAMA Neurology‘s acceptance rate is 11%. The median time to first editorial decision is less than 1 week, and 26 days with review. The median time from submission to acceptance is 72 days, and from acceptance to publication is 83 days. All major articles are published online first. The journal’s Impact Factor is 11.5, ranking high among all neurology journals. Mission Statement: The mission of JAMA Neurology is to publish scientific information primarily important for those physicians caring for people with neurologic disorders but also for those interested in the structure and function of the normal and diseased nervous system. These specific aims are (1) to make timely publication of original research of the nervous system, (2) to record observations of single patients or groups of patients that will provide new information and insights, (3) to report more basic research that is pertinent to the understanding of disease, (4) to introduce topics of practice, ethics, teaching, and history that are useful, and (5) to provide a forum for discussion on topics that may be controversial in this field. This information will be published only after extensive peer review so that originality, clarity, and precision are ensured.
